Renting these mobility aids also means that users don't need to make a large investment in buying their own equipment.

We know that renting a mobility aid may be daunting at first, especially if you've never done it before! We've gathered some of our most frequently asked questions below.

What do you do?We hire free or low-cost mobility scooters and manually operated wheelchairs to members of our charity. This enables Renfrewshire residents 16+ who experience permanent or temporary disabilities/mobility impairment to hire quality/safe equipment to help enhance life and health options. We also provide advice, guidance and support in a safe space and opportunities to connect and participate at our events. We offer a small general repairs and maintenance service for mobility scooters and wheelchairs. Maintaining our own equipment as well as equipment which is privately owned. We also recruit volunteers and provide workplace opportunities, training and development.

What are your opening times?We are open six days per week. 10.00am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday and 10.00am – 3.00pm on Saturdays.

What do I need to do to be able to hire a mobility scooter or wheelchair?Simply join us as a member.

What information do you need for me to become a member?Come into the office to sign up as a member by completing our standard form. If you can bring photographic ID with you as well as proof of your address, we will record this confidentially and you will be able to take advantage of our service.

Does it cost to become a member?No, there’s no cost to become a member of our charity.

How long are you a member for?You are a lifetime member. We would ask you to update us if any of your details change such as name, address, contact details etc.

How much does it cost to hire a mobility scooter?Hires are free during opening times. Overnight hires are £5 per night.

How much does it cost to hire a manual wheelchair?Hires are free during opening times. Overnight hires are £1 per night.

Do you pay in advance for overnight hires?Yes, we require payment in advance for all overnight hires.

Do you repair and service scooters?Yes, we do offer this service.

How long can you hire mobility equipment for?You can hire our equipment every day, or, for long term hires overnight for one or more nights. The maximum hire timescale is up to four weeks at a time.

What age do you need to be to hire a scooter or a wheelchair?Between the ages of 16 and 80.

Can a scooter fit in the boot of a car?Yes.

Can I take hired mobility equipment abroad on holiday with me?Yes, but you are responsible for insuring our mobility equipment when abroad and you need to provide us with original insurance details prior to taking equipment abroad.

Would you be able to deliver and pick up a scooter or wheelchair?Yes, we deliver and pick up within the Renfrewshire area.

Can you use these mobility scooters on the road?No. These are pavement scooters, you need a tax disk for the bigger scooters that go on the road, ours are not insured for road use.
